A WORD or TWO...

One day I realized that ART was not some distant, sophisticated thing

that I wasn't worthy to make,

but that it was right here in front of me,

daily...

asking to be seen.

As far as I can tell, ART is everywhere...

in every action or word or song or soup...

It is not so fancy as they told us,

it is not only relegated to brushstrokes or marble or canvas or clay...

 

ART making seems mostly to be about showing up to the creative process...

and allowing a story to unfold.

And the first step to any process is simply to begin....

I imagine, I learned that somewhere...

When I finally allowed myself the childlike freedom

to paint and draw and play...

after years of excuse making about lack of time or inspiration...

I become rapt in the creative process....

my hands again messy and moving and making.....

and I realized a deep truth.

​

I realized that my inner world was most calm and connected

to this place - this Earth Home of ours -

when I simply gave myself license to create. 

​

Maybe the truth wasn't even all that deep,

but rather,

deeply unacknowledged...​

These days I'm fairly convinced that

WE ARE ALL ARTISTS

of some domain or another...

​

We all have a creative calling and a story to share....

if we so choose to show up and speak

or strum

or paint

or dance

or write

or fly....

​

​For the longest time, I have felt shy about calling myself an "Artist". 

It took me nearly 4 decades to claim that title

as something I could actually BE...

without a degree or a gallery giving me the permission....​

but then,

one ordinary day,

I realized that the only thing keeping me from calling myself an ARTIST was...

in fact,

me.

Once I absorbed that truth, I returned to my first love... drawing, which then quickly reminded me of how much I love color and pattern and texture and PAINT!!!!

​

So predictably, my current mediums are pen & paint. Watercolor and acrylic have my attention for the moment, as I work my way through a series of miniature paintings of local landscapes and cheerful abstracts laced with natural elements.
